35th Indianapolis International Motor Sweepstakes
The FIA once again included the Indianapolis 500 in the World Championship although no European drivers took part in the race, which took place three days after the Swiss GP. Qualifying had resulted in Duke Nalon setting the fastest time from Lee Wallard and Jack McGrath. The race itself was a closely fought affair which was won in the end by Wallard at the wheel of a Belanger Special. Three-time Indy 500 winner Mauri Rose was fortunate to escape unhurt when his Pennzoil Special suffered a wheel failure and overturned.
