44th Indianapolis International Motor Sweepstakes
The 1960 Indianapolis 500 was ignored by the Europeans as usual and was in many respects a repeat of the battle of the previous year between Jim Rathmann, Rodger Ward and Johnny Thompson with Pat Flaherty's role being taken over by Eddie Sachs. The four cars disputed the lead for much of the event and once again it was left to Ward and Rathmann going head-to-head in the final stages. But on this occasion Ward suffered a tyre problem and Rathmann won the day in a Ken Paul Special. This was the final Indianapolis 500 to count for the World Championship.
