  • Race Review:

The World Championship had been used to staying in Europe in the midsummer months but for 1967 Canada applied for a Grand Prix and as it was the country's Centenary the FIA agreed to the request. Mosport Park had hosted the Canadian GP since 1961 but this had always been a sportscar race beforehand.

As usual it was a fight between Lotus, Brabham, Ferrari and Eagle-Weslake although Bruce McLaren's McLaren-BRM M5A was finally ready and so he ceased driving the second Eagle and went to work on his own car. Local driver Al Pease was given a run in an Eagle-Climax while there a couple of extra Lotuses, including a 49 for Eppie Wietzes. Pedro Rodríguez was out of action following a huge Formula 2 crash at Enna in the wooden-chassised Protos F2 car which left him with a broken leg. His place was taken by Richard Attwood.

Jim Clark and Graham Hill were fastest in qualifying in the new Lotus-DFV 49 and they shared the front row of the grid with World Championship leader Denny Hulme. Chris Amon's Ferrari was alongside Dan Gurney's Eagle on the second row while the third row featured McLaren, Jack Brabham's Brabham and Jochen Rindt in the fastest of the Cooper-Maseratis. The BRMs of Jackie Stewart and Mike Spence were back on the fourth row.

It was raining when the race began and Clark took the lead with Hulme chasing. On the fourth lap Hulme went into the lead while Brabham moved ahead of Hill to take third. McLaren's car was working well and he was up to fifth when he had a spin but he then fought back and by lap 13 was able to take third place from Brabham. On lap 22 he overtook Clark for second place. The track was now beginning to dry and McLaren's car was less well-suited to the conditions and gradually Clark, then Brabham retook their places. Hulme continued at the front but Clark closed rapidly and took the lead on lap 58. It started to rain again but Clark stayed ahead until lap 68 when his engine cut out. Brabham overtook Hulme at the same time and so the Brabhams ran 1-2 to the finish with Gurney a long way back in third place.
